A great number of students submitted their contributions to the literary contest.
Poetry or prose, they were all of a high standard. Unfortunately, we could only award some of the works submitted, but we want to congratulate all the participants for their effort and motivation!

A new school year yet! This year we are facing government cuts in school funds, in teachers' salaries, and an increase on teachers' workload. Despite the grim picture, we are commited to providing the best education possible for our students. We firmly believe that in times of crisis, education is the best asset!

THE FUTURE OF LEARNING- A lecture by Professor Cavallo, MIT researcher

A summary of Mr.Cavallo's inspiring lecture at ITWorld Edu Conference:

-We are still teaching people for a world that belongs to the past. To change it, the biggest obstacle is our fear of change.
-We are designing learning materials for the world that WAS, not for the world that WILL BE
-The paradigm has shifted
-How can we use technology to raise the level of students?
-Does school teach what people need to know?
-School and learning must engage, it must not tell the answer; it must help students find the solution.
-Projects must engage.
-Many things that are done in schools are just historical remnants.
-Schools should be learning environemnts instead of places where information is taught.
-We are underserving our children and our community
-The idea is to make learning FUN. It may be HARD, but HARD FUN.

STUDENT EXCHANGE WITH GERMANY by Carme Cemeli

This school year the English Department has started an exchange program with a school in Schwerin,Germany. 20 students of ESO 3 travelled to Germany with 2 teachers to spend an intense week in this northern town.
The school prepared a warm welcome: they were ready with a whole week of activities, outings and trips, including a one-day trip to Berlin.
Students had the opportunity to communicate in English with their German friends, thus reinforcing the importance of learning and using English. This kind of experience gives students a real opportunity to learn and expand what they learn in the classroom and gives them an insight into a different culture.
Our German counterparts will visit us in early autumn. We are already looking forward to meeting them again!

The wiki VirtuallyReal has been awarded the IT WORLD EDU award at the 2009 conference held in ESADE on 28, 29 and 30th of October.
The award consists of an interactive whiteboard and software and licences for several applications and programs.
Catalunya Radio interviewed me about the project and I was thrilled to explain what we do.
I would like to thank the board for this award which just will keep me going for more!
